BLOSSOMS TO HEADLINE TRIAL GIG

The Manchester band Blossoms will play Liverpool’s Sefton Park as part of a government led trial.

While may fans were excited to get back to seeing live music, there is a criteria for this event, which takes place on May 2.

There will be no Covid-19 restrictions in place and no requirement to social distancing.

Each attendee must receive a negative lateral flow test the day before the gig, in order to activate their ticket. As well as taking another test five days after the event has happened.

Iain Buchan, Executive Dean of the Institute of Population Health at the University of Liverpool, said: “Testing, questioning about symptoms, good ventilation, using outdoor venues where possible, being careful on public transport and continued attention to hands-face-space as much as possible are all important parts of securing the reopening of events.

“Liverpool will take a first step in researching how these measures can work over the coming months.”

The event which sold out its capacity of 5000, also features band The Lathums and artist, ZUZU. For most artists, this will be their first performance in front of a live audience in over a year.

This pioneering trial may herald a roll-out of outdoor live music after the pandemic.

Liverpool’s Director of Culture, Claire McColgan MBE, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Government and the University of Liverpool on this vitally important research programme.

“Events are part of the DNA of Liverpool and a critical part of our culture and community. More than that, they represent more than half of our economy, so also play a major role in the success of the city.”
