The great thing about Oceans On Mars is that they are not afraid to be the outliers.
Their new single ‘Mousetrap,’ out April 30 is no exception.
Many Manchester bands fall into a pit of despair, feeling like they need to live up to their predecessors and leaving the music scene stagnant and stuck in the nineties.
“I think it’s time for it to die,” says Angus Scott, guitarist, and songwriter. “We want to feed the people more grunge.”
With ‘Mousetrap’ you will definitely be fed.
It’s not your typical love song. You might not even recognise it as a love song at all: Mousetrap discusses the difficult side of relationships and epitomises the feeling of being trapped, stepping on your ‘tail’ constantly.
The music video is another story. What is it with music videos at the minute? In contrast to the edge of the song, watching the lads playing a big game of Cat and Mouse while dressed in onesies seems good to me.
Intense and moody, the track stays true to the classic grunge formula. From the lows of the verses to the high shrieking tips of the chorus, Oceans On Mars are grinding through the scene and leaving their own dirty mark on Manchester.
Humour and a little bit of grunge, what more could you want?
You can get tickets to their first gig back at The Deaf Institute here. Doors open at 7pm on July 31 at the Manchester venue.
